Fund Raising

As you know, the Girl Guide Movement is a registered charity, and units often have to hold fund raising events to help pay for the cost of activities.
We do try to vary the fundraising as much as we can because it makes it more enjoyable for the children, and therefore (hopefully) we raise more money for the unit.

Recently we have enjoyed many fun, successful fund raising events and thought it might be a good idea to post some here for other units to get some ideas, and would love to hear your ideas too! We have:

o       Held a ‘Hopper Whopper’ Evening:

This was great fun for the children. We split them into teams and each team had a space hopper for the evening. Taking it in turns, one girl from each team had to be bouncing on the hopper at all time throughout the evening. We also played games using the hoppers so it didn’t get too boring just bouncing from one end of the hall to the other. At the end of the evening, we gave little prizes to the girls, and the ones who had been on the hoppers for the longest time without getting tired, won a hopper for themselves.

o       Held a Quiz evening:

This is an easy one for any unit. We invited all the families of the girls, and also more people from the local community, and sold tickets for our quiz evening, giving away dinner vouchers as a first prize. We also wrote to local business and asked for donations of raffle prizes. We had a fantastic response from these, and made almost as money on the raffle as we did from the quiz tickets themselves! After a push we had a fantastic turn out, and had to pull out far more tables than we first thought. And even with a croaky voiced question master- fun was had by all.

o       Bag Packing:
Now I know this one sounds boring, but it is one of the best            fundraisers we’ve ever done! We write to local supermarkets asking if we can come and pack peoples shopping for them. This can be hit and miss though I’m afraid. Some places don’t want young children clogging up the busiest part of the shop, and even if you do get an OK from the manager, it’s still no grantee that the public will give you their spare change at the end of it. However, it works for us and we try to go every year.
