FAQs
Who Can Join?
Any and every girl between the ages of seven and ten are more than welcome to join our unit, regardless of background, race, faith or ability. We welcome EVERYBODY! All we ask is for willingness from the girls to join in and try new things that may same a little scary at times, but rest assured-she will never be alone!
How Do I Join?
Simple- all you need to do is call or Email one of our Leaders who will take a few details from you and put your daughter on our waiting list and we will call you as soon as a space comes available. If you are interested in Brownies, or indeed any level of Guiding, you can also contact our district commissioner who can answer any questions you may have and will also be able to supply you with information on other units if our is unsuitable due to day, time, location etc. Any numbers and Emails you may need can be found on the 'useful names, numbers and Emails' page.
What Should I Wear?
Brownie uniform should be worn at all times. They is a varied choice in Brownie Uniform now-a-days, and the children choose from shorts, trousers, t-shirt, fleeces, body warmers, hats and sashes.
If your daughter has recently joined brownies and does not yet have a uniform, please send her to Brownies in our commonly recognised 'Guiding Colours' of black, blue, white, yellow or brown.
What Shoes Should I Wear?
Our brownie meetings consist of many different elements and most games we play involve a lot of running around, so please wear sensible shoes to Brownies, with plenty of grip. Most of the children choose to wear comfortable trainers.
How Much Does It Cost?
Subs many differ from unit to unit, but our subs are £1.20 a week. These can be paid weekly or in a lump-sum at the beginning of the term. This does not include the annual census payment.
What Is The Census Payment For?
This is an annual payment usually asked for at the beginning of the year. It is the membership fee for your daughter to be part of GirlGuidingUK. It covers many things including processing but more importantly, it covers the insurance for your daughter for the year while in the care of your unit Leaders.
Who Are The Leaders?
The Leaders at this unit consist of three Leaders and one unit helper, all of whom have had many years experience working with children and very much enjoy it. All have been CRB checked (Criminal Record), and also received training from GirlGuidingUK on how to deal with children and how to cope with certain special and difficult situations. Some of your leaders have also received specialised training for certain areas of guiding, e.g. first aid and holidays. You can find out more about your leaders on the 'secret lives of the leaders page'. Also, please feel free to ask any of the Leaders any questions you have.
